Temperature of Hot Air Oven

The temperature of a Laboratory Hot Air Oven generally ranges from ambient +10°C up to 250°C, with many standard models featuring adjustable temperature settings and precise control typically between 50°C and 250°C. Some specialized laboratory ovens can be set even higher, up to 300°C or occasionally 450°C, although most zoology labs commonly operate within the 50°C to 250°C range for activities like sterilization and drying. Temperature accuracy is usually within ±1°C to ±2°C, ensuring reliable results for laboratory procedures.

Pressure of Hot Air Oven

A hot air oven operates at atmospheric pressure (approximately 1 atm or 760 mmHg).

Key Points on Pressure:

  • No pressurization: Unlike an autoclave (which uses steam under high pressure, e.g., 15 psi or 121°C), a hot air oven uses dry heat at normal atmospheric pressure.
  • Ventilation: Most ovens have adjustable vents to allow moisture and air exchange, preventing pressure buildup.
  • Sealed door: The door ensures heat retention but is not airtight under pressure—it is designed only to maintain temperature, not to withstand positive or negative pressure.
